Necklace of Venetian Chevron Beads, Made for the African Trade. Venice, Italy, c. early to about mid-20th century. Necklace said to be from Ethiopia. The glass beads are the classic "Chevron" type, multi-layered in white, red, and with an outer lay of intense deep blue. This bead was popular with the natives for centuries, and was among the earliest Italian trade goods going into Africa. Length: 30". All nicely preserved.
