Beauharnais, Eugène de (1781-1824) Son of Josephine, Napoleon I's first wife; stepson and adopted child of Napoleon I; he held the titles of Prince of Venice, Duke of Leuchtenberg, and Viceroy of Italy; he served as Napoleon's aide-de-camp and commanded the Army of Italy. ALS ("Eugene"), 1p, in French, Eichstätt (in 1817 his father-in-law, Maximilian I of Bavaria, gave him the administration of the Principality of Eichstätt), 1823. Fine. To an unnamed colonel, who has recommended an architect to Eugene. Eugene replies that he would like nothing more than to grant the request, except for the fact that Madame Berthauls has already asked him to hold the place for her young son and, until the boy is old enough, offers the services of the architect who has taken over the work of her late husband.
