Mexico. Mule Error 8 Escudos, ND (1714) Mo J. 26.94 grams. Date off flan. Philip V, 1700-1746. Obverse: Crowned arms. The denomination appears as IIII (4). A 4 Escudo die was used on the arms side of this coin. Reverse Cross. This coin is in the weight of an 8 Escudo. From the "1715 Fleet" ship wreck. A rare and perhaps unique mulling of an 8 Escudos and 4 Escuods dies. This piece by weight had the intention of execution as an 8 Escudos. The denomination however appears as "4 Escudos" resulting from the mulling of dies. The other side remains typically that of an 8 Escudo. The weight that of an 8 Escudo. Cataloger does not know of another existing example. Extremely rare and of utmost importance. NGC graded MS-63.
