Macedonian Kingdom. Alexander III, the Great, Posthumous AR Tetradrachm (16.66 g), Mesembria mint, c. 275-225 BC. Civic issue. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Reverse: Zeus enthroned left, holding eagle; beneath hand, at left, Corinthian helmet; MT monogram in exergue. Price 985. Perfectly centered and struck on generous flan. Abundant glistening luster beneath handsome toning. The dies exhibiting wonderful artistry for this mint. Herakles is at once human and accessible, yet clearly projects a regal and godly air. A masterpiece of mature Hellenistic art! Extremely Fine.
