1891, $2 Silver Certificate. . Fr-245. . KL-126. CGA graded Choice Uncirculated 64 The portrait on this briefly issued design is William Windom, one of President Cleveland's staunch hard-money supporters who, ironically, was honored after his death by placement on a "soft money" silver certificate. At the time, the 1890s, there was a great debate in the public forum about which form of money was best for honesty and future prosperity. Silver certificates (backed by silver dollars) had been first introduced by the U.S. government in 1878.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,500.
