1849-D $1 Gold Liberty. Sharpness of AU-55. Possible light reverse marks. This is the first year of issue for the Gold Dollar, following discovery of gold in California. At the same time as the Mint decided to strike a dollar denomination in gold, it also began preparation for a $20 gold piece that would come out the next year. Scarce Dahlonega Mint issue. Only 21,588 minted.
