1866 Partial Proof Set. All graded by NGC as follows: 25¢ Motto PF-63 Cameo; 10¢ PF-64 Cameo; ½ Dime PF-64; 3¢ nickel PF-64; 1¢ PF-64 RB. Looks like an original set as all the coins are similarly lightly toned, which should attract many bidders who enjoy coins that have a matched appearance. The year 1866 was one of transition in American numismatics. IN GOD WE TRUST had been adopted on the two-cent coinage in 1864, but 1866 was the first time the mint had spare time to prepare new dies for the larger silver and gold denominations incorporating the new motto. The quarter dollar in this set has IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll above the eagle, initiating the With Motto style that would remain in production until 1891. The smaller denominations, due to size limitations, were not suitable to include the motto. A very choice partial set. Lot of 5 coins.
