Lot 2588

1839 Liberty Seated Dime. NGC graded MS-67. A frosty white gem. A near perfect coin, comparable in quality to the 1837 No Stars in similar grade just offered. Boldly struck. This lustrous example, whose snow white brilliance whirls dizzily around the surface, is a treat for sore eyes, especially if those are the eyes of an earnest individual who has been hoping to find a top-end example for a Type Set. A great deal of stress is laid on the strike detail of these, it should be pointed out, and this piece is well struck on all devices: needle-sharp stars, exceptional detail on Liberty and the shield, and the same sharp relief on the legends and wreath portions of the reverse design. All in all a fantastic specimen! Pop 14; 6 finer, 5 in 68, 1 in 68 Star (PCGS # 4571) .
Estimated Value $10,000 - 11,000.
