Lot 2583

1827 Capped Bust Dime. Rarity 2, JR-4. NGC graded MS-66. Beautiful blue obverse toning. Reflective surfaces. Smooth luster and impressive fields confirm the grade. This coinage date is the second of just four early dimes to exceed the one million coin mark with a mintage of 1,215,000 dimes. While 13 varieties are known from a combination of nine obverse and 10 reverse dies, one of these die marriages (JR-10) is only known in Proof. This JR-4 variety is the only use of the obverse die and first use of the reverse before JR-5. The reverse has a very faint die crack through RICA to the upper arrowhead. Pop 5; 2 finer in 67 (PCGS # 4504) .
Estimated Value $17,000 - 18,000.
