Lot 2413

1856 Flying Eagle Cent. PCGS graded Proof 63. Well struck and toned on both sides. Key date as only 2,000 struck. Worthy of a strong bid, most Proof survivors of this famous rarity are from the Snow-9 die pairing and are the most frequently encountered 1856 Flying Eagle cents in today's marketplace. Snow is of the opinion that this die marriage was probably in use from late 1857 through 1860. The needle sharp devices and full rims confirm its Proof status. The coin is lovely tan-brown and a specimen that has a couple of deeper toned areas at S of STATES and IC of AMERICA. Other than these two areas, the surfaces are essentially blemish-free with the look of a higher grade. Pop 146; 231 finer. (PCGS # 2037) .
Estimated Value $13,000 - 14,000.
