Lot 2127

1799 S-189 R2. SEGS graded About Good-3 Obverse, Fair-2 Reverse. The obverse is sharper than the reverse and grades a solid AG3 while the reverse is barely Fair-2 and an argument could be made for a Basal State-1 grade for that side. Fortunately the date is easily readable, at least the upper half remaining clear with two-thirds of the all-important 9 visible. The surfaces are reasonably smooth but do show microscopic porosity under magnification. Lightly cleaned leaving the highpoints several shades lighter than the dark steel brown toning that covers the remainder of the planchet. Dull rim dents before the face and behind the hair ribbons are the only marks of any consequence. A decent lower grade example of this key date. EAC grade Fair-2. The attribution is noted on the SEGS label.
Estimated Value $500 - 750.

Realized $1,050
