Lot 2109

1797 S-141 R4. VG-10. Sharpness EF40 but there is a patch of shallow pitting at the date and a larger swipe of moderate roughness from CE in CENT to the dentils at S-O, plus other areas of minor roughness scattered over both sides. Traces of shallow dark olive verdigris remain in a few areas as well. In spite of the roughness, the predominate color is a decent and rather glossy medium brown and chocolate. The 9 in the date is weakened by the roughness but the date is easily readable and the legends are complete. M-LDS, Breen state III.
Estimated Value $500 - 750.
Ex W. E. Johnson, American Auction Association (Q. David Bowers & James F. Ruddy) 5/19/72:410-R. S. Brown, Jr., Superior 9/30/86:202 (where graded AU50 net F15 by Del Bland).
