Lot 2097

Electrotype Copy of 1795 S-80 Jefferson Head Obverse. VF-35. An unusual piece composed of an excellent electrotype copper shell of the Jefferson Head obverse imbedded in a lead square, and the corners of the lead square have tiny holes for mounting. The electrotype shell was made from the VF35 ANS example. It is a very attractive glossy medium chocolate brown free of any notable defects. The copper is intact with none of the underlying base metal showing through. The "reverse" is not represented, replaced by the lead square. An odd and curious piece to be sure, perhaps one with an interesting history.
Estimated Value $200 - 300.

Realized $1,265
