Lot 2054

1825 C-1 R3. AU-50. Frosty light olive and tan with faded mint color showing in some of the protected areas. The only defect is a small planchet void at the dentils right of the F in OF, as struck. Sharply struck E-MDS, Manley state 1.0 late or 2.0 early, in which the faint obverse die crack reaches the curl on the neck but there is no lump between the bases of the F and adjacent A (the so-called "egg" clashmark). I have seen a few in this intermediate die state and call it Manley state 1.5 for simplicity. Of course such a finely delineated die state assessment would not be possible on a worn example, but this one is quite sharp. An important piece for the die state specialist, apparently quite rare.
Estimated Value $750 - 1,000.

Realized $978
