Lot 2027

1797 C-3a R3 The "Low Head" variety with Plain Edge. About Good-3 Plus. The obverse is considerably sharper with a strong date and full LIBERTY, but the reverse is weaker with most of the legend outside the wreath worn away. No roughness or verdigris. Lightly cleaned and retoned glossy chocolate and steel with some lighter tones in protected areas. The only mark is a struck-through line (caused by a piece of wire or thread stuck on the die) in the field above the bust. There appears to be an arc of dentils from a cut-down misstruck large cent visible in the field off the chin and in the field left of the cap, but the excessive wear makes this determination very difficult.
Estimated Value $300 - 500.

Realized $311
