Lot 136

Rome. Nero, 54-68 AD. Gold Aureus (6.49 g), Rome mint, struck c. 65-66 AD. Laureate head right. Reverse: Jupiter enthroned left, holding thunderbolt and spear-like scepter. RIC 52; BMCRE 67; Calico 412. Excellent strike and portrait. The handsome deep red toning suggests a Boscoreale Hoard origin. A bit under wieght, plus the smooth edges also suggest a former jewelry use for the piece. A pleasing, bargain-priced Nero. Very Fine.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.

Realized $2,300
