1845 Second Restrike Proof. . Br-1-C Rarity-6. NGC graded Proof 65 Brown. Attractive medium brown with chocolate toning covering the protected areas. The fields are smooth but the mirrors are not especially deep, which is typical of this restrike. There are some faint hairlines in the fields, traces of an old fingerprint in the field off the chin, and an easily missed spot of shallow crud on the eyeball. Sharply struck everywhere except in the centers, which display minor weakness. The eye appeal remains quite nice, which accounts for the gem grade assigned by NGC. This is the plate coin used to illustrate the variety in the second edition of the Cohen book on half cents. EAC grade Proof-60. The Reiver provenance is noted on the NGC label.
