Vatican. Zecchino, ND. Fr-222; CNI XVII, pl.XIV,23; Berman-2608; KM-888. 3.40 grams. 21.27 mm. Clement XII (Lorenzo Corsini), 1730-1740. Obv: Metaphor of church seated in clouds. Church in left hand and keys in right. Leg: CLEMENS XII - P.M. Reverse: Arms above crossed keys and dove. Leg: .PIGNVS - DEDIT. NGC graded MS-65.

A most unusual pope. Elected at age 78, and almost blind, he was mostly confined to bed where he transacted all matters of state. His background as a lawyer served him well, and he fought successfully to restore the papal treasury. He re- instituted the public lottery, which brought millions into the papal coffers.
