Transylvania. Ducat, 1646. Fr-384; Resch-45; Hess-863; KM-261. Weissenburg mint. 3.46 grams. 21.9 mm. Georg I Rakoczi, 1630-1648. Armored half length bust with fur cap right and scepter over right shoulder. Leg: GEORG.RAKO.D.G.PRI.TRA. Reverse: Eagle over seven castles, A-I at sides. Leg: PA.RE.HV.DO.ET.SIC.CO.1646*. Lovely original mint luster. NGC graded MS-61.

George Rakoczi I was essentially the last successful ruler of Transylvania. After his death in 1648, the state went quickly downhill. The golden age was over.
