Messina. Ducat, ND. Fr-659; Spahr-28. Mintmaster MC. 3.54 grams. 22.12 mm. Ferdinando II (The Catholic), 1479-1516. Obv: Crowned, seated ruler with scepter in right hand and orb and cross in left hand, within beaded inner circle, flanked by eagles. Leg: +FERINANDVS:D:G:R:CASTELLE:S:A. Reverse: Crowned eagle left, at feet MC. Leg: +FERDINANDVS:D:G:REX:SICILIE: Well struck example with an abundance of original mint luster. NGC graded MS-63.

This coin was issued by Ferdinand the Catholic, who ruled Sicily as Ferdinand II, but was known as Ferdinand V of Castille and Leon. The legend describes him as king of Castille as well as Sicily. An incredibly well preserved example.
