Lot 3992

Denmark. Ducat, 1682. Fr-176; Hede-118; KM-72. 3.47 grams. 20.15 mm. Scheswig Holstein,
Gluckstadt. CW (Christoph Woltereck, mintmaster in Gluckstadt, 1650-1718). Christian V, 1670-1699. Obv. Crowned king standing spurred with scepter in right hand on right shoulder and orb and cross in left. Leg: CHRISTIAN V.D: --G: REX.D.N:V:GOT. Reverse: Young girl (Fortuna) swirling a large sail about her, foot on small 'globe' within arms of crossed wreaths, with date and mintmarks below. Leg: JUSTITIA - PIETATE. Exceptional quality. Of the highest rarity. NGC graded MS-61.

One of the rarities of this collection. Christian actually produced many different types of gold coins, but most had very low mintages. The example pictured here is almost never encountered. Add to that the incredible quality, and this is a very special coin. Christian did a better job of producing coins than managing his kingdom. He ingloriously died in a hunting accident.
Estimated Value $50,000 - 60,000.

Realized $57,500
