Theodosius II, 402-450 AD. Gold Solidus (4.24g), Constantinople mint, struck 430-440 AD. Diademed, helmeted and cuirassed three-quarter facing bust holding spear; on left arm shield decorated with horseman and fallen enemy. Reverse: Constantinopolis enthroned left, holding globus cruciger and scepter, foot on prow of ship. RIC 257; DOCLR 379ff; Depeyrot 81/1. Face a bit weakly struck, but reverse neat and attractive. Lustrous. About Extremely Fine.
