Lot 2799

Vespasian, A.D. 69-79. Fourrée Denarius (2.52g). . RIC-148b. . BMC 371. H-770. Laureate head right of Vespasian. Reverse: Draped woman (Judaea personified) standing to left of palm tree; IVDAEA DEVICTA. Very Fine.

A fourrée is a silver-plated coin with a copper core. Its official status has been questioned, and here is accompanied by a crude rendering of the types. For some reason, the "Judaea Devicta" commemorative denarius is nearly always a fourrée (see the BMC specimen as well).
Estimated Value $750 - 1,000.

Realized $2,760
