Aelia Capitolina. Antoninus Pius, 138-161 C.E. AE 24. . Mesh. ("Aelia") 24. Laureate and draped bust right of Antoninus Pius. Reverse: Dionysos standing, looking right. Very Fine.

At the end of the Bar Kokhba War, Jerusalem was renamed Aelia Capitolina. The most recent reference on coins of this city was written by the renown numismatist Ya'akov Meshorer and published in 1989 by The Israel Museum, Jerusalem. Of great value as well is the 1956 volume by L. Kadman, The Coins of Aelia Capitolina, which is volume I of the Corpus Nummorum Palestinensium series.
