Lot 1785

1900-S $20 Liberty. NGC graded MS-64. Lovely rich golden toning on both sides. Often, bidders meet with conflicting problems on these heavy, soft gold coins. However, the present 1900-S $20 escaped anything that might advise against bidding. Bright luster seems to be having the best of the struggle for your attention over the golden toning it is competing with. (Though strength of detail in the strike competes gallantly.) Finally, a keen analytical sense tells double eagle buyers this S-mint date is much scarcer in its grade than several others in the post-turn-of-the-century years. Scarce date in grades above MS 63. Pop 75; 6 in 65, 1 in 66, 1 in 67 (PCGS # 9038) .
Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,400.

Realized $3,680
