Lot 1388

1893-S Morgan Dollar. NGC graded AU-53. Nicely toned. Not only is the mintage of 100,000 pieces the lowest in the series for a business-strike only date, but 1893-S is unchallenged in its rarity in About Uncirculated and finer grades. There is a small mark on the jaw below the ear and three others (equally minor) on the reverse above the eagle's head, above the top arrowhead, and below the left wing (from the point of view of the numismatist). The borders and legends have firm, mark-free expression of boldness. The eagle shows excellent wing detail. Popular key date. Pop 39; 59 finer (PCGS # 7226) .
Estimated Value $30,000 - 33,000.
