Lot 133

1800 Draped Bust Cent. . S-198 R5+. VG-10. Sharpness VF25 with a small patch of very shallow reddish corrosion at the bust tip, another in the hair below the E in LIBERTY, and similar reddish scale covering most of the reverse. Specks of greenish verdigris are mixed in with the reddish scale on the reverse, but they are not distracting to the unaided eye. There are a few fine hairline scratches on the upper part of the obverse plus a few tiny ones at the dentils from the fraction clockwise to ST, all blended perfectly into the patina. The obverse is mostly glossy chocolate and steel brown while the reverse is reddish chocolate and steel with dark steel brown highpoints. The date is bold and the legends are strong. Not perfect but still tied for finest known honors in the Breen/Bland condition census. This is the plate coin for the variety in the Breen book on early large cents. Noyes photo #25170.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 7,000.
