1796 Liberty Cap Cent. . S-89 R3. Fine-15. Sharpness near VF25 but covered with uniform faint granularity under a slightly glossy steel brown and chocolate patina. No verdigris. There is a small planchet crack in the dentils left of the cap extending through to the reverse at the N in UNITED, as struck. A rim nick opposite the tip of the nose is the only other significant defect. The date and legends are strong. E-MDS, Breen state II.
