(Hawaii) King David Kalakaua (1836-91) Last King of Hawaii (1871-91), called "The Merry Monarch"; he was forced to sign the Bayonet Constitution of 1887, which severely restricted his powers and the rights of native Hawaiians. Royal Patent No. 6594 Signed "Kalakaua R" as King, with embossed Royal Seal, 2 pp plus integral docket leaf, in Hawaiian, 15¾" x 10", Honolulu, 6 July 1874. Very good; overall toning; the King's signature is exceptionally large and bold. A transaction with Moelalau relative to 4.36 acres of land at Honomalino, Kona, Hawaii. Countersigned by W.L. Green as Minister of the Interior; he also served as Premier, Minister of Finance and Minister of Foreign Affairs under Kalakaua.
