Lot 194

1871 Indian Head Cent. MS-61 Red and Brown. One of the scarce dates in this popular series due to the economic downturn which transpired beginning in 1869. The United States economy had not yet stabilized after the Civil War and mintages of most denominations were curtailed as demand for coinage fell. This 1871 cent is no exception, under 4,000,000 were struck, less than half the number of a few years prior. Few were saved, especially in such original condition, with full mint luster and original red color in abundance.

Realized $460
