1841 Coronet Head Cent. . N-1, R5. NGC graded Proof 65 Red Proof-Only Variety. Brilliant original mint red just starting to mellow on the highest points, 95% of the original color remaining. Perfect to the unaided eye, but a strong glass reveals some extremely tiny specks of darker toning scattered over both sides. The best identifying marks are a speck of toning on the tip of the coronet, another in the field at the throat, and a "colon" of 2 specks midway between the D in UNITED and first S in STATES. These marks are mentioned to help identify this cent, but they are in no way significant or distracting. A fantastic example of this proof-only variety. EAC grade consistent with the slab grade. Tied for CC#1 honors. Pop 3, none finer in Red.
Estimated Value $15,000 - 25,000.
Ex: New Netherlands Coin Co., 6/20/58: 1237.
