Lot 801

1839 Coronet Head Cent. Booby head. . N-12, R4+. PCGS graded EF-40. Frosty light chocolate and medium steel brown. The surfaces are smooth and free of any defects, nearly choice. The only marks are a tiny, barely visible planchet lamination from the dentils up to the left side of the 3 in the date and another from the dentils up past the right point of star 13. MDS with a clear die crack from the dentils through star 4 to the nose. A sharp, very attractive example of this rare variety, but the surfaces are a bit dull from a thin layer of natural oxidation. A proper brushing should bring out the underlying natural gloss and add to the eye appeal. EAC grade VF30+, close to VF35. Tied for CC#6 in the Noyes census, his photo #39008.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 3,000.
