Lot 165

1803 Draped Bust Half Cent. . C-3, R2. Fine-12 Double Struck Obverse Brockage Maker. Attractive glossy medium brown with chocolate toning in protected areas. No defects. M-LDS, Manley state 4.0, with swelling at the 18 in the date. Double struck. The reverse was struck twice by the die, but the offset between impressions was less than a half millimeter. Nonetheless, doubling is clear on the entire wreath and legend. The obverse, however, was struck against a new blank planchet rather than the obverse die during the second strike creating an incuse brockage impression on that planchet. An attractive example of an uncommon type of mint error.
Estimated Value $150 - 300.

Realized $345
