Lot 152

1795 Liberty Cap Half Cent. . C-6b, R6. VG-7 Without Pole. Thick Planchet. Sharpness VF20 but lightly corroded, then cleaned and retoned a mostly glossy dark bluish steel brown and chocolate. No verdigris or distracting contact marks. The date is weak (as usual) but is easily readable and the legends are complete and clear. Weight 106.5 grains, considerably heavier than the 84.0 grains standard for the Plain Edge version. Most likely struck from spoiled large cent planchet stock, but there is no evidence of cent undertype.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 4,000.

Realized $3,450
