Lot 149

1795 Liberty Cap Half Cent. . C-5b, R4. VG-10 Without Pole. Thick Planchet. Glossy medium brown and chocolate. Smooth, corrosion-free surfaces. There are a few marks, however, including a small dig in the field near the dentils left of the cap, a dull mark in the dentils right of the bust tip, and a sharp nick at ED in UNITED. The date is faint, as usual on the thick planchet version of the variety, but most of the legend is clear. Struck on a thick planchet (most likely a cut-down spoiled cent) weighing 115.8 grains.
Estimated Value $350 - 700.
Ex Stuart MacDonald, McCawley & Grellman Auctions, Inc., 1/11/97:795.
