1878 Shield Nickel. NGC graded Proof 66 Cameo. A dazzling untoned gem. A white, mint-fresh example, as crisp and glossy as when it was first released from to the Treasury for distribution. Most Shield nickels of this date are struck with somewhat frosty fields; some are much flashier; and collectors, true to their tradition, wish that all could be like this nice appearing example exhibiting fine detail to all the high points and sparkling fields. 2,350 Proofs minted.
