1870 Shield Nickel. PCGS graded Proof 63. Old green holder. The surfaces glisten with fresh nickel-silvery color projecting through the natural toning, beauty that will make your head spin. Especially bold strike. Only a few faint flyspecks in the lower obverse. (Die polishing has caused weakness at the tops of some of the letters on the reverse, such as the D, S, S, F and R as well as the bottom of the S in CENTS, a trait that is seen on many Proofs of the 1870s.) Only 1,000+ Proofs struck (PCGS # 3824) .
Estimated Value $250 - 275.

Realized $420
