(Hawaii - Kamehameha IV & C. Brewer & Co.). 1860 Honolulu Real Property Royal Patent No. 2705. Contemporary copy of a transaction with Charles Brewer about Hotel Street land owned by Brewer exchanged for "Lot No. 1," a Fort Street lot owned by the government, 4pp, 12½x8", Honolulu, 20 Apr., 1860. Page 2 has a handdrawn map in fine pen. Document contains a detailed description of the location of the government-owned lot. Includes a blind stamp showing "Capitol Building & Congress." Secretarial signature for Kamehameha IV and Kaahumanu. Charles Brewer (1804-85) descended from a Brahmin Boston family with roots back to the Mayflower. He founded C. Brewer & Co., Ltd., the oldest surviving company in Hawaii, one of The Big Five that controlled Hawaii's economy unti the 1950s.
