Very Rare Latvia Officer's Dress Sword. Ca. 1920s-1930s, total length 40 1/2". The 34" blade marked "A.T. A/S.A. Ratfelders Riga" and "E&F. Horster Solingen" on either side of the ricasso. The hilt in heavy brass with some gilding remaining in the recessed areas, with the grip in ornate wire wrapped black horn or a bakelite type material. The large guard is decorated with the lion and griffin supported coat-of-arms of Latvia with 3 stars above and the backstrap ornamented with oak leaves. The pommel screw with a swastika (totally unrelated to the 3rd Reich). The scabbard, which is nickel plated has two suspension rings and also marked "A.T." at the tip protector, shows some minor age spots and a tiny dent, mentioned for accuracy, about 6 inches from the bottom, otherwise very good. The sword in excellent condition overall with a bright clean blade. A rare sword in a fine state of preservation.
