U. S. Naval Commander's Dress Hat, Belt, & Epaulettes, c. WWI. U.S. Naval Commander's "fore and aft" dress hat, belt, and two sets of epaulettes, circa World War I. Black with gold trim. All housed in a period black tin container (probably the original). The name "Lt (MC) F.W. Ryan" is written in pencil on the sweat band. The size 7¼ hat has a British coat of arms in the lining; the dress epaulettes were made in France, and the second set of epaulettes were made by Viking, New York.
