1864 Sartain Engraving of Washington & His Family. A handsome group portrait intaglio engraving, being a proof copy signed in pencil by the artist ("William Sartain") in lower right border, with printed "PROOF" 19½x25½", matted to 20½x27", Fine; period matte has small break at lower left. "Entered According to Act of Congress in the Year 1864 by C. Schussele in the Clerk's Office of the District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania." Sartain was a nationally-recognized historical artist, having done portraits of Lincoln and his family, among others.
