Lot 2823

1867 Liberty Seated Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64 Cameo. Untoned and very flashy with nice cameo relief including stars and letters in the legends. Only 625 proofs struck. Pop 11; 2 finer in 65. A problem-free coin bursting with luster, vivid and white in appearance, wholly brilliant. What's more, the surfaces acquit themselves nicely in terms of the fewness of hairlines. A sharp strike is seen on most of this rare issue, which means that the dies were spaced at the right distance apart to prevent any weak metal flow in the areas where the high points of the design might be expected to cause problems. The stars, Liberty, and eagle are all very sharp for this date. Here we find that as with the other silver denominations struck in 1867, the silver dollar's regular production mintage (meant to circulate) was low. This lack of supply forces today's collectors to put increased pressure on the few remaining choice, sparkling Proofs of which this is a distinctive, in fact, distinguished looking example (PCGS # 87015) .
Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500.

Realized $7,274
