Lot 2280

1893-CC $20 Liberty. PCGS graded MS-62. Nice original roning. Low mintage Carson City issue. Original satin luster glitters throughout natural golden surfaces. The full sun is shining on this choice double eagle, unlike the threatening shadow cast over the Mint that struck it once the new Grover Cleveland administration was seated in the White House in January 1893. A man who stuck to a tight fiscal budget, Cleveland saw little need for the politically connected Carson City Mint and so abolished it by withdrawing its funding from his first budget (which a friendly Congress passed). So ended a distinguished 24 year reign of coinage by this far Western mint. And history will record that the 1893-CC gold issues, one and all, are highly prized by collectors. 18,402 coins minted. Pop 120; 18 finer in 63. (PCGS # 9023) .
Estimated Value $9,000 - 10,000.
