Lot 475

1883 Hawaiian Quarter Dollar. NGC graded MS-62 Date 1883 over 1383. A choice, frosty example with slight weakness in the beard details as commonly seen. Five dies for the quarter were sent from Philadelphia to San Francisco, where some but not necessarily all were used to strike 500,000 quarter dollars. Of those dies, one has an erroneously punched 3 below the first 8 in the date. This die, along with the rest, can be viewed at the Hawaii State Archives in Honolulu (the building immediately mauka of the Royal Palace).
Estimated Value $200 - 250.
The Emile A. Tartakow Collection.

Realized $322
