Cumberland Bank of Alleghany $20.00 Note, Cumberland, MD. PCGS Very Fine 20. Here is a wholesome and undamaged example of another contemporary counterfeit of this early-issuing Maryland bank. This is both the plate note for Haxby and Shank. Although little is known about these early counterfeits, they serve as a fascinating reminder of the shortcomings of our country's early paper money system. This is an excessively rare note, and quite likely unique. Haxby MD-160-C38, Shank 30.3.20C, R-7.
