1853 Dollar Octagonal. . BG-501. PCGS graded Low Rarity 5 MS-63. The reverse is like the Humbert Fifties. Very popular type. Well struck with nice even gold toning. Pop 5; none higher at PCGS. Likely a first strike from new dies, just estimating from the details of this beautifully designed California fractional gold piece. The surfaces are vivid gold in hue and drenched in orange toning. In addition, the coin possesses a nice, clear-cut strike for all hair curls on Liberty. This is the famous eagle design whose reverse emulates the $50 slugs then comprising a large percentage of the circulating gold "coins" and ingots in California as well as the neighboring states and territories (PCGS # 10478) .
Estimated Value $7,500 - 8,500.

Realized $13,225
