1906 $10 Liberty. NGC graded Proof 65 Cameo. Only 77 proofs struck. Intensely reflective fields with a pristine orange-peel effect on this handsome Gem 1906. Crisp, radial luster like that found on all the best specimens. On the reverse, a small depression in the horizontal stripes of the shield is the only mark worth pointing out but this may be an artifact of the striking process, that is, an aspect of the die and not post-minting. The 1906 Proof eagle is one of the scarcer Proof issues from the early 20th Century. Perhaps only 30 exist in all grades and in gem, which is the beautiful condition offered here, it is often many years that pass between the appearance of any example. While many of the Proof gold issues from the early 20th Century come with uniformly brilliant surfaces, this specimen displays lovely cameo contrast between the deeply reflective fields and frosted devices of Liberty and the eagle.
