Lot 3923

1873-S $10 Liberty. NGC graded AU-58. Slightly pinkish around the devices. Pop 5; none better. Available only as a Closed 3 variety, although Open 3 and Closed 3 varieties exist for many other denominations and mints of this important year in American numismatics. Exactly 12,000 pieces were struck of the 1873-S. The majority were put into commerce where they circulated widely. NGC has yet to certify an example as Mint State, putting this lovely AU58 at the head of the Condition Census in a tie was only a few others. A remarkably smooth, clean (not "cleaned") example, the present piece has noticeable bright remaining luster, a splendid strike, and beautiful original color.
Estimated Value $10,000 - 12,000.
