Lot 3919

1856-O $10 Liberty. PCGS graded AU-50. Normal amount of light bag marks for the grade. Pop 9; 20 finer. Only 1 mint state 60 graded at PCGS. A few small marks at the chin and jaw, another mark, equally trivial, in the field by the 5th star. Notable in this grade, the surfaces show enduring golden bloom and there are no planchet defects or toned spots on either side. Sheer boldness of strike in all instances would be the ideal for a scarce high quality 1856-O ten-dollar gold piece like this, but the coin failed to strike adequately and was left by the rebound of the dies in a somewhat soft state at the stars. The core devices, by contrast, and this is key, are very well struck, they are akin to the quality of a P-mint eagle. (PCGS # 8620) .
Estimated Value $2,900 - 3,000.

Realized $3,335
