Theodosius II, 402-450 AD. Gold Solidus (4.51 g), Constantinople, struck 441 AD. Rare, especially in this quality. Diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust facing slightly to right, holding spear in right hand, and shield ornamented with horseman. Reverse: Soldier advancing frontal, shouldering tropaeum and dragging captive, star at right; VIRT EX - CER ROM / CONOB. Officina Δ. RIC 284; MIRB 31a,b. Superbly struck on well spread flan. Sharp and brilliantly lustrous. A gem! Brilliant Mint State.
